Brownie Knits Wednesday: Girlfriends Shawl

The Girlfriends Shawl is a Brownie Knits pattern that was released back in the spring of 2012. The beauty of this wrap is that it is
  • lightweight - which makes it great for summer or for those of us who easily get warm
  • plays off the gorgeous colors of the yarn
  • knit from side to side with a simple garter stitch with an eyelet/slip stitch edge
  • fits everybody

It was originally designed out of a DK weight yarn from Rowan that is two different colored yarns plied together (Rowan Summerspun). However, you could create your own yarn by holding two different fingering weight colorways together. You could also knit it out of a fingering weight yarn on the larger needles and just let it be more lacy.

A lot of the time, I wear this shawl tied behind me so that my arms are covered, but I can move around without worrying about the shawl falling off.

This pattern retails for $2.99 and can be purchased from my Brownie Knits Ravelry store, Brownie Knits Etsy shop, or Brownie Knits Craftsy shop. The gauge is 5.5 stitches per inch on a size US 6 needle and you need 524 yards of a dk weight or 1048 of fingering weight (holding double).

Goofing off during the photo shoot!

It can also double as a table runner to add a little splash of color and knitting. If you are not a knitter and would like to purchase a Girlfriends Shawl, you can do so by sending an email to us at or sending a convo via our Etsy store. We can customize the color for you!
