Christina's Baby Shower

We had a surprise baby shower for Christina at the store last night. She was completely surprised, which was so fun to see. JK did a great job of getting her to the store and everybody had a wonderful time. The gifts were fun to see and the cupcakes from Pat-a-Cakes were good. I had to do some extra Wii Fit time this morning to work mine off!!! Enjoy the pictures.

Hot Air Balloon

This was the scene from our house the other night. The damn thing barely cleared our 10 foot birch tree in the back yard. Believe it or not in the first shot, they were higher than they were when they were in our back yard!

They ended up landing in the parking lot one road over at the retirement community. It made for a lively night in Westfield. They walked it to a more open spot. I don't know if it completely deflated or if they were able to take off again. I'm glad I wasn't in the basket!

Handmade Cards

I love to shop for yarn and find new things. As I'm out and about, I try to pick up colors that I think friends and family who are knitters will like--makes holiday shopping a lot more fun. My MIL is a knitter who loves to make socks, so she gives me a good reason to buy that sock yarn I love but I never use because I don't knit many socks.

As a thank you for the yarn, she let me pick out as many of her handmade cards as I wanted. I was so thrilled! She does a great job with the cards. Me, well, I can put a sticker on a piece of cardboard--that's about my limit. Here are some pictures of her work. I really like the knitting and yarn-related cards.

Kennedy likes them too!

Dog Pictures

Are you smiling yet? She loves her bone that I knitted for her. It is three i-cords knitted and then knotted together. It is one of her favorite toys and it hasn't changed at all--holds up really well.

Pipp's Purses KAL

I've never been a KAL that I didn't run (other than a lace one that I ended up not doing), so I was excited to see a felted bag KAL in the Pipp's Purses group in Ravelry. I picked up a couple of her patterns (so cute) via Ravelry. Today is cast on day and I plan to make the Dr. Bag and the Boxey Bag. I think I'll use my Rio de la Plata yarn that I picked up earlier this summer. (Trying very hard to use up some stash yarn as of late. I tend to spend yarn money in the first 6 months of the year and then use it the second half of the year. You would think it would be the opposite, but I really love getting things at the spring/summer fairs.)

Check out the patterns at http://pippspurses.blogspot.com/. Such cute patterns!

Loop Stitch Tutorial

To perform the loop stitch used in the Kitchen Sink Blanket pattern,
you can follow along here. Good luck!

Step 1: Go into the stitch as if to Knit. Wrap the needle like you would in knitting.

Step 2: Bring the wrap through the stitch like a normal Knit stitch,
but do NOT drop the stitch of the left needle.

Step 3: Bring the yarn between the two needles to the front.
Wrap it around your thumb and, while continuing to hold it around your thumb,
move the yarn to the back between the two needles.

Step 4: Go into the same stitch you did earlier and knit it again,
this time dropping the left stitch off the needle just like a normal knit stitch.

Step 5: You now have 2 stitches and 1 loop out of the original knit stitch.

Step 6: Bind off one of the stitches. This locks your loop
and you are back to 1 stitch again!

July 4th Celebration

We had our Kanouse side of the family over for a 4th of July celebration this year. Over the weekend I snapped some pictures of my nephew Jack. Thought I'd share. Isn't he beautiful?!? (I'm working on a bunch of winter hats, Meg. Maybe I'll make a Mommy and Jack a matching set too!)

Of course, we can't forget our favorite dog nephew, Ben!
He loves our bed when he visits.
