Good Gifts for a Beginner to Make

The most common question we get this time of year is... "What is a quick gift that I could make for a holiday present?"

I thought this would make a useful blog entry for a lot of the beginners I've taught lately (hi ladies!). Here are some links to some great free patterns that are fairly quick and use basic skills so that newbies would be comfortable. (Fear not, next week I'll post a list of things that you could ask Santa for!)

Hats:
Woman's hat/children: http://www.frugalhaus.com/homepage/downloads/NP12.pdf
Men's hat: http://kisknit.wordpress.com/2006/08/31/fo-second-chemo-cap-plus-the-pattern/

Hat Tip: Personalize a simple knit hat by sewing on a college or sports team decal.

Scarfs:
Simple Rib scarf: http://www.knittingonthenet.com/patterns/scarfribbed.htm (lots of men seem to like this pattern)
Crochet corkscrew: http://www.straw.com/cpy/patterns/corkscrew-scarf-blippity-party.html

Other quick knits for gifts are cowels, fingerless mittens, baby blankets, and dishcloths. Christina has created several patterns for Stitches & Scones that we have for sale at the store. They use different textured yarns and knit up very fast.

Happy Knitting!
