I don't often write about my job at the publishing company, but today was special. The head of our HUGE 164 year-old company is an amazing woman named Marjorie. I've heard Marjorie speak several times over the years and each and every time I am always inspired. Not just inspired by whatever her topic is that day, but inspired to take on the world. She has a talent for making you feel like you did when you walked out of college and were ready to make everything right and better.

One of the things she talked about today was the difference that we can have on each other. It really made me excited to be moving into my new roles and to see what affect I can have on the editors I'll be supporting and the students that I'll be teaching. I'm so excited to see what the tomorrow will bring.

If you ever need a role model for a girl/woman in your life, have her check out Marjorie's story. She has "it!" So inspiring to see a woman who can be such a great leader. (Email me if you would like to get a link to her bio.)

Felting, Stash, and Dogs

So, it has been a little bit since I've written. I've been really busy for the last few weeks with preparations to change from my fulltime job to a parttime job, teaching more, and launching Brownie Knits. And, oh yeah, there is basketball too.

I finished knitting my Barcelona bag and ordered my lace pattern for it and purchased the paint/etc for the bag. Here are some pictures. Unfortunately, the front and back pieces came out several inches different from each other. I plan to use my quilting cutter to even it out and practice my lace spray paint on the extra, so it worked out nicely. We are having a girls slumber party this weekend, so I am hoping Tonia and Nancy can help their sewing machine challenged friend.

I started taking pictures of my stash and writing down quantity/etc and entering it all into Ravelry. As part of this exercise, I organized my partial balls of yarn so that I can utilize them in making smaller garments for sale. So far I have two VERY full drawers full of leftovers. So much organization to do, but it will be worth it so that I can run the business effectively and efficiently.

Next week is the start of my new life and I have three private lessons lined up for Thursday, which I wouldn't have been able to do otherwise, so I feel really good about the start. I am also working on two sweater orders and need to write up class activities for Crochet for Youth and Crochet for Knitters. Then, on to designing the lesson plan for the Cable Workshop and making crocheted socks for display. I have a ton to do in my first few weeks!!!!! Not even counting the rest of the organizing and updating all of my paperwork.

In the midst of organizing the stash a stray ball of sparkle landed on the bed. Kennedy decided to try her paw at soccer and batted it around a bit before kicking it off the bed and down to her brother. Riley promptly ran under the bed and was determined to keep it for himself. Patrick bravely went after it while I snapped pictures. It was too funny of an event to miss! That's my boy--red sparkly yarn!!!!!

Just Call Me the Hat Lady!

So, I've been busy making some hats. I crocheted up this hat out of chenille (the red one) for a coworker. After that, I got inspired to write up a pattern for a bulky or two strands of worsted held together (the green one with Faith as a model). I got another order for a purple one and then decided to do a baby one (with some changes) as a gift. They all turned out so well. I was very pleased and now that I have a full version of Office of my Mac and hooked up my camera, I'll be printing out some copies for sale at the shop. A very productive few days!

If you crochet and want to purchase a pattern, they will be available at Stitches & Scones starting 3/14. If you are further away, you can email me to purchase a pattern. (I'm working on getting PayPal all set up, as well.)

If you don't crochet and want to purchase a made hat, please contact me at ginakanouse@insightbb.com.

In Other News

I was VERY disappointed in IU's performance against Penn State. So much so that I scared poor Kennedy to death with my screaming at the TV. I couldn't resist snapping some pictures of her in such a state.

And Finally...
In case you need a good laugh, I picked up my button jar by the top today. 500+ buttons all over the floor! I'm hoping Riley didn't eat one before I got him out of the room. Good grief!

What's Up?

So I just updated some of my info along the right side of the blog. I added a list of my upcoming classes. If you are interested in a class, please contact Stitches & Scones to sign up. Don't see a class and want one? Send me an email with your request. I also offer private lessons and finishing for the store.

That all brings me to my next point, why isn't there much listed in the recently completed? I've been designing some and knitting my own garments for sale. I plan to get some knitted up and post them here and on etsy.com as soon as I can figure out all the technology. I will also have patterns for sale here and at the store. I just designed a really cute (if I do say so myself) 1920s inspired flapper hat with flower. (Thanks to my own personal tech editor, Tonia!)

Okay, enough of me pitching myself. (So uncomfortable.)

Now, on to American Idol (go David Cook!).

Designs and Dentists

So, I'm laying here recovering from a dental visit. I'm deathly afraid of the dentist, so we have an entire routine just for cleanings. Because of the drugs to keep me calm, I'm left really out of it the rest of the day. The actual visit went really well today, but the recovery is leaving me feeling like I'm hovering above myself. I might do a little straight stockinette knitting on my Barcelona bag.

If you haven't seen the bag patterns from Marta McCall, run (via this link) to www.tinkknit.com. Fabulous designs and they are so simple to knit up!

I have finished designing a 1920s inspired crochet flower hat that I hope to have for sale (patterns and finished hats) in the next few weeks. I am just trying to decide if I want one size or two. (Still haven't hooked up my camera to the new laptop yet, so no pictures just yet.)
